Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena informed Parliament today that he will inquire into an incident in which Opposition Parliamentarian Thalatha Athukorala was subjected to verbal sexual harassment during a Parliament session.

Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Rohini Kavirathna raised concerns over the conduct of several ruling party members, who she accused of openly subjecting MP Athukorala to verbal sexual harassment in Parliament.

The incident had occurred during the debate on the no-confidence motion submitted against Minister Udaya Gammanpila last month.

MP Rohini Kavirathna also called out Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena for laughing at the comments hurled by the ruling party MPs at MP Athukorala, stating it was regrettable to witness the Speaker of the House not condemning such actions. (NewsWire)
