The Sri Lanka Police has issued a clarification on the groups of people who have been permitted to cross provincial borders at present.

Police spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said Government employees, people from the private sector who have been requested to report to work, and essential services employees have been allowed to cross borders.

He further said the general public who require to receive medical treatment and those who require to attend the funerals of their close relatives have also been permitted to cross provincial borders.

Police officials have been instructed to follow the regulations issued with regard to the inter-province travel ban, Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said.

He added that 103 people had been admonished and turned away after attempting to violate the inter-province travel ban yesterday.

The Police spokesman said they were identified after 5,494 people were inspected at the 14 entry and exit points of the Western Province. (NewsWire)
