Update on Sri Lanka naming T20 World Cup squad

Sri Lanka Cricket is set to announce the squad for ICC T20 World Cup 2021 scheduled to take place in UAE and Oman starting from October 17th.

Speaking to NewsWire, SLC CEO Ashley De Silva said SLC will announce the squad before Friday (September 10th), which is the initial cut off date set by ICC to announce the squads.

Ashley De Silva said SLC will announce an initial 15-man squad along with 4 reserves before Friday. He added that ICC has provisioned to make changes in the squad if required till October 10th.

Speaking to the press after the series win against South Africa, Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka said that selectors are already looking for the squad and based on the performance of previous tournaments and the combinations, they will determine it.

Sri Lanka will have to finalize the squad based on the player performance in the recent T20 domestic tournament and the South Africa ODI series as the South Africa T20 tournament will only begin on 10th September, which is the deadline and the initial date announced for the squad to be named.

The 2014 Champions are required play the qualifiers in this year’s edition which is to be set off from 17th October in Oman. Sri Lanka will play its first game against Nambia on the 18th October. (NewsWire)
