Parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen has been further remanded over the case on the death of a 16-year-old domestic girl who was employed at his Colombo residence.

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court today further remanded Bathiudeen until the 1st of October 2021.

Meanwhile, the MP’s wife and father-in-law who were earlier remanded over the incident have been released on bail.

The brother-in-law and agent who had brought the child to Colombo for employment were granted bail on Monday (06).

The 16-year-old girl from Diyagama had died after being admitted to the Colombo National Hospital with severe burn injuries in July.

However, the post mortem examination into the death had revealed that the child had been sexually abused over a long period of time.

The body of the child was exhumed for a second post mortem examination, which was conducted by a three-member expert panel.

Investigations are continuing into the death of the girl by several units of the Sri Lanka Police. (NewsWire)
