The Government has issued a deadline for those above the age of 30 who are yet to obtain the COVID-19 vaccine to receive their jabs within this week.

State Minister Channa Jayasumana said unvaccinated people above the age of 30 must obtain their vaccines within this week.

Stating that the Government has been forced to issue a deadline, he said this was due to the authorities not being able to operate the vaccination centres for the necessary age group for long.

He said instead, the Government can move on to operate vaccination centres for youths and adolescents of the country.

Professor Channa Jayasumana pointed out that despite many above the age of 30 having received the Covid vaccine, some individuals have forgone the vaccine due to various reasons.

As the vaccination centres cannot be operated for these individuals who are yet to get vaccinated from the age group, a deadline has been issued with an aim to complete the vaccination of those above 30, he said.

Pointing out that the vaccination drive for people above 30 was to be completed last week, the State Minister said it has been extended by one more week in a bid for unvaccinated individuals in the said age group to obtain their vaccines soon. (NewsWire)
