Covid vaccine: Special announcement for A/L students

The pilot project to administer the COVID-19 vaccine to students sitting for the GCE Advanced Level Examinations 2021 commenced in the Colombo District today.

The Education Ministry said vaccinations will be administered at the Homagama, Colombo, Jayawardenepura, and Piliyandala educational zones of the Colombo District.

Additional Secretary to the Ministry L.M. D. Dharmasena said the students have been requested to inquire from their school principals on the vaccination centres allocated for their respective schools. 

“One vaccination centre has been allocated for three or four schools. Therefore, students have been urged to inquire from their respective principals on the vaccination centre that has been allocated for them,” he said. 

Dharmasena further pointed out that information on the allocated vaccination centres can be found on the Health and Education Ministry websites. 

Students and their parents have been urged to check the websites or contact their principals in this regard.

The students can obtain the vaccines using their National Identity Cards (NIC), the Additional Secretary to the Ministry said. 

He further said students who are unable to visit the allocated vaccination centre, and other people within the age group can obtain the vaccine from their closest MOH or Government hospitals.

Dharmasena added that students born between 16th October 2001 and 15th October 2003 will be vaccinated under the pilot project.

Meanwhile, the Health and Education Ministries have made joint preparations, to administer the first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to students between the ages of 18 and 19 in schools from the 21st of October. (NewsWire)
