Another consignment of Pfizer Covid vaccine arrives

Another consignment of the Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine arrived in Sri Lanka this morning. 

The State Pharmaceutical Corporation (SPC) said a stock of 608,000 vaccine doses arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake. 

The vaccines are part of a purchase order placed by the SPC to secure 05 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine.

Sri Lanka has already received 01 million doses of the order, while the consignment that arrived today is from among the remaining 04 million doses. 

The Pfizer vaccine is currently being administered as part of Sri Lanka’s Covid vaccination drive to the youth, school children, and those looking to travel overseas for education or employment purposes. 

Discussions are also underway to provide the vaccine as a third booster shot for those who are above 60 years and have taken the Sinopharm or AstraZeneca vaccine as the first and 2nd dose, those with illnesses between the ages of 30 – 60, those with cancer and kidney diseases, and health and frontline workers.
