Five sectors to get Pfizer booster dose from Nov 1st

The Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine will be administered as a booster dose to selected groups from November. 

Army Commander General Shavendra Silva said the vaccine will be provided to the selected groups after 1st November 2021. 

Following are the people eligible to obtain the booster dose:

  • Health sector
  • Tri-forces
  • Police personnel
  • Tourism sector
  • Frontline workers

Earlier, the Government announced that the health authorities have taken a decision to administer the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine as the third dose for several categories.

Director-General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena said that the 3rd dose will be administered to selected groups on the advice of the World Health Organization (WHO).

He said those who are above 60 years and have taken the Sinopharm or AstraZeneca vaccine as the first and 2nd dose, those with illnesses between the ages of 30 -60, those with cancer and kidney diseases, and health and frontline workers will be administered the vaccine. (NewsWire)
