The PCR laboratory set up at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake resumed operations from 04 am today.

Fully vaccinated inbound and outbound travellers, those with a single COVID-19 vaccine dose, and individuals leaving the country can undergo PCR tests at the lab.

Passengers departing Sri Lanka via the BIA have been advised to arrive at the airport at least six hours ahead of the scheduled departure time to undergo PCR tests.

PCR tests are being conducted at the lab at a cost of US $40 while the results are released in three hours.

The lab was symbolically declared open at the BIA on 23rd September.

It was expected to carry out 500 PCR tests per hour and 7000 PCR tests per day for a charge of US$ 40 per traveller.

However, operations of the new PCR laboratory at the BIA were temporarily suspended on 27th September.

The  Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited (AASL) said that the operations of the PCR laboratory were suspended due to a technical issue.

The suspension was in place until the laboratory resumed operations early this morning. (NewsWire)
