Hong Kong – China seeks to stifle Hong Kong’s position on the ladder of the global financial center, and from becoming a trading center.

It attempts to achieve so through its control of power in the economic fields and use of Hong Kong as a showroom for its products, utilizing force and other means, which may interrupt international relations with some foreign countries.

China confirmed that Hong Kong’s infrastructure and economic climate will still make it a destination for foreign businesses in Asia.

Ali Nur Ahmed, a lecturer at the University of Pelita Bangsa Indonesia, believes that China is trying to weaken Hong Kong as a business and impose economic dependency on it.

The weakening of Hong Kong, in Ahmed’s opinion,   is affected by several major factors; One Belt One Road project that is done by the Chinese government, is relatively successful, therefore the economic dependency of third world countries is not anymore depending on western countries.

Hong Kong is a representative of the West in Asia, but Beijing can provide everything that developing countries need, that is why every city in China shows no big difference seen anymore, and most cities in China lookalike similar to smart cities in Hong Kong

“Hong Kong has its independence, which is why Hong Kong has its currency. So, 50 years of assimilation process is considered by Mainland as a lesson process that Hong Kong has to follow obediently to be a new ‘Good Boy’ in a Chinese family.”

For his part, Sri Lankan businessman, Mr. Mahmoud, stated that China is working on geographical and political rapprochement with Hong Kong so that it will be the showroom for products in the world.

“China is taking power control in terms of economic and other directions. So, the reason why it happened, and the reason how it affects Hong Kong is that china wants Hong Kong to act as a showroom for Chinese products and not to act as a showroom for the other parts of the world.”

He added: “Having proximity in geo-politics in a land they are having so many benefits to grow with Hong Kong and China as an economic partnership.”

China is considered the factory of the world and wants Hong Kong to be the showroom of the world, thus China will use its power in all forms to make that happen.

This may deter a few international relations with some foreign countries, but eventually, Hong Kong will understand that this is their best option in this part of the time.”
