Gas accidents continue: Minor explosion captured on CCTV

Twenty-one (21) gas-related explosions have been reported from several parts of the country in the 24-hour period ending at 06 am today.

A total of 739 incidents related to gas explosions and fire accidents, as a result, have been reported in the first 19 days of this month (December 2021). 

A gas cooker is reported to have exploded in a house in the Gangthalawa area in Kantale last evening. The incident has been captured on the CCTV camera that had been installed in the house. 

Meanwhile, a gas-related explosion had been reported in the New Colony area in Udupussellewa, Badulla last evening. 

A gas-related explosion had also been reported in the Kottawagama area in the Yakkamulla area in Galle. 

The Government has prohibited Litro Gas Lanka from unloading gas from the two vessels that had transported gas supplies as it did not comply with the requirements of the Sri Lanka Standards Institute (SLSI). 

Both Litro Gas Lanka and Laugfs Gas PLC have agreed to supply gas from today conforming to the requirements of the SLSI as instructed by the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka. 

Also, the Committee that was appointed to look into gas-related explosions in the country is set to hand over its report to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today. (NewsWire)
