The Ministry of Trade has received approval to import nearly 300,000 metric tons of rice.
Minister of Trade Bandula Gunawardena has tabled a proposal to import 200,000 metric tons of Nadu Rice and 100,000 metric tons of GR 11 short Grain Rice type of rice.
The stock of rice is to be imported as a substitute for Samba Rice to ensure the availability of required rice consignments in the open market.
Thereby, the Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval for the Ministry of Trade to import the necessary stocks of rice. (NewsWire)
