The Sri Lanka Police has been granted approval to acquire the plot of land belonging to the Sri Lanka Railway Department in which the Haputale Police Station is located.

The Haputale Police Station was established in 1928 in a plot of land which is a railway reserve belonging to the Sri Lanka Railway Department in an extent of 1 Acre,1 Rood, and 9.8 perches.

As the land where the police station is located has not yet been formally handed over to the Sri Lanka Police, it has not been able to construct new buildings necessary for the police or repair them.

Accordingly, the proposal tabled by the Minister of Public Security to acquire the said land for the Sri Lanka Police was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers. (NewsWire)
