Grenade in church : Retired doctor arrested

A retired doctor has been arrested in Piliyandala in connection to the incident where a hand grenade was found at the All Saints’ Church in Borella last Wednesday (12).

The suspect was arrested by the Colombo North Division Crimes Unit yesterday based on information retrieved from the 65-year-old suspect who was initially arrested in Embilipitiya over the incident, The Lankadeepa Newspaper reported.

The retired doctor had served at the Piliyandala District Hospital after which he had left to open up his private clinic in the area.

The 65-year-old suspect from Embilipitiya had been hired as a security officer for the doctor’s private clinic.

The suspect has revealed during interrogations that the doctor had provided the necessary money to purchase the hand grenade.

Investigations are underway to find whether retired doctor was also involved in the incident in which a hand grenade had been found on the first floor of a private hospital in Narehenpita last year.

The Police said the retired doctor will be interrogated to ascertain his involvement in both incidents. (NewsWire)
