Two arrested for attempting to smuggle out foreign currency

Two people have been arrested by the Sri Lanka Customs at the Katunayake airport today for attempting to smuggle out foreign currency. 

The suspects had been arrested with foreign currency worth over Rs. 11 million. 

They had attempted to smuggle out the foreign currency to Dubai, United Arab Emirates via Emirates flight EK 649.

Upon a thorough inspection of the luggage of the two passengers, the authorities had managed to locate 46,000 Euros that was concealed inside.

The Sri Lanka Customs is conducting further investigations into the incident. (NewsWire)
