The usage of fuel in Sri Lanka has increased by 30- 35% in comparison to last year, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) said today.

CPC Chairman Sumith Wijesinghe said only 139,000 MT of fuel was utilized by January 2021.

However, in January 2022 the usage has increased to 198,000 MT of fuel, he said.

Stating that it is an unusual surge in usage, Sumith Wijesinghe said the reason for such an increase must be investigated.

He pointed out that the importation of vehicles had been banned over the last two years.

The CPC Chairman said thereby, the usage of fuel has increased as a result of the already existing vehicles in the country. (NewsWire)
