Power cut : PUCSL goes to court

April 1, 2022 at 4:28 PM

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has filed a Fundamental Rights (FR) petition against responsible government institutions for violating the rights of electricity consumers.

In its petition filed at the Supreme Court, the PUCSL requests the court to direct the Minister of Energy Gamini Lokuge to supply sufficient fuel continuously for power generation.

The lack of fuel has resulted in over 10- hours of power cuts being imposed across the country on a daily basis.

Several of the power plants in the country have become non-operational due to a lack of fuel.

The Government is unable to purchase necessary fuel due to the Dollar crisis in Sri Lanka.

The public has taken to the streets to protest the long power cuts and queues at fuel stations across the country. (NewsWire)
