Sri Lanka is hopeful of reaching a staff-level meeting with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) soon, the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lank (CBSL) Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe said.

He said there is a possibility for Sri Lanka to reach a staff-level meeting or an initial agreement with the IMF.

The Central Bank Governor further said that either of the two may occur within the next two months.

Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe had also noted that encouraging progress had been made towards establishing a macro-fiscal policy framework and initiating structural reforms.

He thereby expressed confidence that a staff-level agreement with the IMF is likely to be reached within the next two months.

Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe made the statement while addressing the committee of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce yesterday. (NewsWire)
