Fuel distribution stopped until further notice

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has temporarily suspended the distribution of fuel in Sri Lanka.

The CPC said the decision has been taken considering the current security situation and curfew that has been imposed in the country.

An islandwide curfew is in effect in the country until 07 am tomorrow (12) after unrest broke out on Monday.

Despite the Police and military being deployed to contain the situation incidents of violence and tense situations are being reported from time to time in several areas.

The CPC’s temporary suspension of fuel distribution comes at a time when Sri Lanka is already facing a shortage of fuel.

The shortage of fuel and several other essential items had pushed the people onto the streets calling on the President and Prime Minister to resign.

The supporters of Mahinda Rajapaksa, who was the former Prime Minister, attacked peaceful anti-government protesters in Colombo causing unrest to break out in the country.

The incident eventually resulted in Mahinda Rajapaksa resigning from his portfolio and leaving the country in turmoil. (NewsWire)
