The Parliament broke out into laughter today as the Speaker of the House referred to opposition MP Field Marshall Sarath Fonseka as Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

The mishap occurred when MP Fonseka attempted to inform the Speaker that the electronic equipment had malfunctioned and he was unable to cast his vote pertaining to the proposal to debate the Motion expressing displeasure over the President.

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena who was responding to other MPs facing similar issues addressed MP Fonseka as Gotabaya accidentally, making the entire Parliament erupt in laughter.

Despite the Speaker correcting himself, MP Fonseka made a light-hearted comment, telling the Speaker that Sarath Fonseka was out there and not in Parliament. (NewsWire)
