Former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa arrived in Parliament today to attend the sessions for the day.

Mahinda Rajapaksa was relocated to the Navy Base in Trincomalee after unrest broke out in Sri Lanka on 09th May.

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) loyalists attacked peaceful anti-government protesters in Colombo following a meeting with former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Temple Trees.

The incident resulted in unrest breaking out across the country, with the public retaliating by torching the residences and vehicles of several SLPP politicos.

Following the unrest, Mahinda Rajapaksa tendered his resignation from the post of Prime Minister, to which Ranil Wickremesinghe was appointed.

As attempts were made to break into the Temple Trees, the official residence of the Prime Minister, a special military operation was conducted on the following day to relocate Mahinda Rajapaksa and his family to Trincomalee.

Protests were also held outside the Trincomalee Navy Base against Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Navy, over alleged attempts to leave the country.

Despite staying at the Navy Base for several days since the unrest, the former Prime Minister has attended Parliament sittings that are being held to resolve the various issues in the country. (NewsWire)
