PM replies to Harin-Manusha, answers question on removing President

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has responded to the 07-point letter that was submitted by opposition MPs Harin Fernando and Manusha Nanayakkara on supporting a new government led by the Prime Minister.

The MPs had called on the Prime Minister to respond to their queries on several issues, stating that they will provide support within and outside Parliament to the new government if they receive a favourable response from the Prime Minister.

Responding to their letter, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has provided a response to each of their queries. 

On the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, he said he will agree with the majority view and will focus on implementing the 21st Amendment to the Constitution, to curb the powers of the President. 

The Prime Minister also said that a special committee headed by MP Wijedasa Rajapakshe has been appointed to study and submit the proposal on the 21st Amendment to the Constitution.

Pertaining to the attacks on peaceful anti-government protesters in Colombo on 09th May, he said the Police are conducting an independent investigation and his full support will be provided in this regard.

On the investigations into the Easter attacks, stating that investigations are already underway, the Prime Minister said he is prepared to obtain foreign assistance if required.

He further said that a special expert committee will be appointed to submit facts to the Supreme Court on the case pertaining to former opposition MP Ranjan Ramanayake who is currently imprisoned.

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe also vowed to call for a Parliamentary election as soon as stability is established in the country. (NewsWire)
