The Attorney General (AG) has adviced the Senior Deputy- Inspector General of Police (SDIG) Deshabandu Tennakoon to be transferred.

The directive has been issued to Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D. Wickremeratne.

The AG has called for the transfer to prevent any undue interventions in the investigations into the unrest that broke out in Sri Lanka on 09th May.

SDIG Deshabandu Tennakoon was spotted with Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Sanath Nishantha who led the attacks on anti-government protesters in Colombo which led to widespread unrest breaking out across the country.

Minister Ramesh Pathirana also informed Parliament that SIDG Tennakoon had informed the President that the IGP and Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security had instructed him not to fire tear gas or water cannons at SLPP loyalists to prevent the attacks.

The CID has recorded statements from SDIG Deshabandu Tennakoon who is in charge of the Western Province in connection to the Temple Trees and Galle Face attacks. (NewsWire)
