A tense situation was reported in front of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) today as a protest was underway demanding SLPP MP Johnston Fernando’s arrest.
Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Johnston Fernando recorded a nearly five-hour-long statement with the CID today.
The MP was summoned before the CID to record a statement on the incidents that occurred on 09th May pertaining to the attacks on anti-government protesters in Colombo.
The former Minister was accused by many of having allegedly instigated the SLPP loyalists to visit the anti-government protest site at the Galle Face Green in Colombo.
He is reported to have expressed such views during the meeting with then Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa which was held at the Temple Trees, prior to the attacks.
SLPP loyalists thereafter attacked anti-government protesters outside the Temple Trees and at the Galle Face Green, which resulted in widespread unrest breaking out across the country. (NewsWire)
