A committee consisting of Tri-Forces officers has been appointed to conduct investigations into the incidents that occurred during the protest in Mirihana and unrest on May 09 in Sri Lanka.

The committee comprises Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda, Marshal of the Air Force Roshan Gunathilake, and General Daya Ratnayake.

They have been appointed to probe any lapses on the part of the Tri-Forces during the incidents that unfolded during the protest in Mihirana on 31 March and the incidents during the unrest on 09 May.

The public staged the first large-scale protest against President Gotabaya Rajapaksa outside his residence in Mirihana, calling for him to resign over the economic crisis.

Violence broke out during the protest, with several of the public being injured, and public property being damaged.

Meanwhile, unrest broke out across Sri Lanka on 09th May after loyalists of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) attacked anti-government protesters near the Temple Trees and at the Galle Face Green in Colombo.

In both instances, the forces, especially the Police were accused of failing to act to prevent violence. (NewsWire)
