Minister of Energy Kanchana Wijesekera has clarified reports circulating pertaining to crude oil from Russia.

In a Twitter message, the Minister said that the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has instructed its lawyers to initiate legal action against a local newspaper for publishing false and misleading articles in this regard.

He further said that a complaint will also be made by the CPC to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to investigate the allegations.

Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said that the CPC and the Ministry have received more than 70 proposals in the last month for the supply of petroleum products.

All proposals are evaluated by a committee comprising government officials and are also issued Letters of Intent (LOI) once the requirements are fulfilled.

Most proposals fulfill the technical requirements but fail to fulfill the payment methods that can be adopted by the CPC due to the country and banking ratings, he explained.

The Energy Minister further urged anyone with a viable proposal to submit it to the CPC or the Ministry rather than spreading false and misleading news. (NewsWire)
