Talks between PM & IMF team commence

Discussions have commenced between Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the team from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that has arrived in Sri Lanka.

According to sources, the discussion is underway at the Prime Minister’s Office in Colombo. 

A 10-member delegation arrived in Sri Lanka today and is scheduled to continue with its mission until Thursday, the 30th of June 2022.

During the visit, the IMF team will continue discussions with Sri Lankan authorities to reach a staff-level agreement.

The IMF Sri Lanka team has said that it will continue discussions on an economic program that could be supported by an IMF lending arrangement.

The discussion will build on the progress made during the previous virtual mission between 9th May to 24th May.

The IMF has reaffirmed its commitment to support Sri Lanka at this difficult time, in line with the IMF’s policies.

Sri Lanka is in the midst of a severe economic crisis that has seen a shortage of several essential items, especially gas and fuel. (NewsWire)
