The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and several opposition parties have decided to boycott Parliament this week.

The opposition parties have informed that they will boycott this week’s Parliament proceedings.

The main opposition party, the SJB says it will boycott Parliament proceedings to show its displeasure over the government.

SJB and Opposition Leader MP Sajith Premadasa has informed Parliament of the party’s decision.

Addressing Parliament, MP Premadasa questioned the benefit of Parliament convening, pointing out that it has not resolved any of the crises.

Questioning if the government has no family and is blind to the difficulties of the people, MP Premadasa said the opposition has decided to boycott Parliament proceedings over its conduct.

Meanwhile, the National People’s Power (NPP) said the Parliament proceedings that have been held thus far have not benefitted in uplifting the livelihoods of the people.

NPP leader MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the Parliament has now reached a point where the difficulties and the voices of the people are overlooked and disregarded

Stating that the President is unfit to govern the country as he has failed to take responsibility for the difficulties faced by the public, MP Dissanayake said it is only reasonable and understandable for the public to stage protests calling for his resignation.

He further said it has also been proven that the Prime Minister and the government have also failed as even after nearly a month since their appointment they are unable to resolve the crises in the country.

MP Dissanayake said thereby, that the opposition parties have requested the government to submit a short-term plan on the measures taken to address the crises, until which the opposition will boycott Parliament proceedings. (NewsWire)
