The investigation into the sudden power failure at the Parliament during the swearing-in ceremony of President Ranil Wickremesinghe has been handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department, according to the Lankadeepa.

Ranil Wickremesinghe was sworn in as the 8th Executive President of Parliament at the Parliamentary complex this morning.

The state television channel, the Independent Television Network (ITN) was set to do a live telecast of the ceremony along with other television channels.

However, after the President had entered the Parliament complex the live telecast was disrupted.

It was later reported that a sudden power failure at the Parliamentary complex had caused the disruption.

During a power failure as such, the generators are switched on within two to three seconds of the incident on a regular basis, but the power remained disrupted for at least 10 minutes parallel to the swearing-in ceremony of the new President.

As a result, the state television channel was unable to do a live telecast of the President’s swearing-in ceremony. (NewsWire)
