The Energy Ministry is looking at importing both 95 Octane petrol and super diesel as a combined cargo by mid-August, Minister of Energy Kanchana Wijesekera said.

Speaking during a television talk show, he said the Energy Ministry has halted the distribution of 95 Octane petrol and super diesel at present.

The fuel consignments that arrived in the country last week do not include 95 petrol and super diesel, the Minister said.

Stating that initially Sri Lanka was in stock of 95 octane petrol than 92 octane petrol, the Minister said that due to the fuel crisis, the 95 petrol was used for essential services.

The fuel was allocated specifically for the essential services, especially the health sector and this resulted in the shortage of the 95 octane petrol, he revealed.

Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said that measures have been taken to include 95 petrol and super diesel in fuel shipments expected next. (NewsWire)
