Several youths have been remanded on charges of having taken selfies of the anti-government protests, General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers Union Joseph Stalin said today.

He said the pictures taken on their personal mobile phones and uploaded on social media platforms are being used as evidence against them.

The CTU General Secretary said he had met several youths who had been detained under such charges at his prison cell.

He further said that President Ranil Wickremesinghe had contacted him while he was at the Fort Police station and inquired if he has not been presented in courts yet.

“Even though the President had instructed for me to be produced in court, I was not produced in court by the Police,” he added.

Stalin made the comments to the media after he was granted bail by the Fort Magistrate’s court today. (NewsWire)
