Jobs in New Zealand: Resource centre to be established in SL

Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara met the High Commissioner to New Zealand in Sri Lanka Michael Appleton.

In a Twitter message, High Commissioner Michael Appleton said the discussion focused on the role of remittances in Sri Lanka‘s economy, proposals to reform labour relations, discussions to form a multi-party government, and regular and irregular migration from Sri Lanka.

Ministry of Foreign Employment said that a discussion was held to establish a resource centre with details on job opportunities, eligibility, the application process, and other migration-related information pertaining to New Zealand to be set up in Sri Lanka.

A large number of Sri Lankans are reportedly attempting to migrate to New Zealand, while the High Commission has received a large number of applications for student and visit visas at present.

Thereby, the Resource Centre will provide the necessary guidance for Sri Lankans looking to migrate or travel to New Zealand for employment opportunities, Ministry said in a statement.

During the discussion, Minister Manusha Nanayakkara has drawn attention to enabling Sri Lankans to enter New Zealand through the legal way for employment opportunities.

The two officials had also discussed job and visa scams related to New Zealand that is carried out via social media platforms. (NewsWire)
