‘Queen of Sri Lanka Women’s Cricket’ Shashikala Siriwardena retires

Shashikala Siriwardena took 4 for 16 in her final international appearance for Sri Lanka and won the Player of the Match Award to end her 17 year Internetional Cricket Career.

Shashikala Siriwardena is one of Sri Lanka’s most accomplished allrounders in both ODIs and T20Is, with over a decade and a half of playing experience. She made her ODI debut against West Indies in March 2003.

She is the only Sri Lankan to have scored over 1000 runs and captured over 100 wickets in ODIs.

She captained the Sri Lanka team in 2013 that beat India, England and South Africa.

“It has been an utmost honour to represent my country at the highest level for 17 years. 🇱🇰🇱🇰Remembering my father at this time, wish he was here to see me finishing something that would have never begun if not for him and his perseverance. Dedicating my entire career to him and thanking my Mother, Brother, Sister, Hubby and every single person that has been a part of this journey to get me where I am today.Leaving with the fondest of memories.” Shashikala Siriwardena said after the game.

There were emotional scenes at the Junction Oval today,  Sri Lankan team mates were in tears as they bid goodbye to the legendary Cricketer Shashikala Siriwardena.
