GMOA concerned about shortage in essential drugs

Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has issued a statement citing the concerns in the health sector which have emerged during the subsistence of the Coronavirus threat.

According to them, currently there is a huge shortage of more than 500 types of essential drugs and the steps taken by the relevant authorities under the guidance of the Health Minister are in no way satisfactory.

On 27th March former MP Harin Fernando also highlighted the drug shortage in the country by posting following Tweets.

Meanwhile the GMOA also notes that the patients suffering from illnesses which need immediate attentions and care, such as heart related ailments, arrive late to the hospitals, due to which there has been an increase in the number of deaths occurred island-wide during the past few weeks.

They have also requested the government authorities to regulate the hotlines for emergency help in a more organized manner, while requesting the public to admit at hospitals as soon as they figure any serious ailments.
