Death at Ind Square : “Donated Rs 5 lakhs to Covid fund, purchased firearm for Rs 151,500”

Rajeewa Jayaweera (64) who was found dead today at Independence Square has reportedly written a letter to his brother before his death.

Police says they believe he has committed suicide by shooting himself.

Rajeewa Jayaweera is a former Senior Manager at SriLanka Airlines and a well-known freelance opinion writer attached to the Colombo Telegraph Website, where he has written articles on a wide range of topics including corruption at Sri Lankan Airlines.

He was found dead at Independence Square, this morning around 6.45 am.

Colombo Telegraph Editor Uvindu Kurukulasuriya publishing a note about his death said that he read the 3 page suicide note written by Rajeewa Jayaweera.

“He had donated half a million to the Covid19 fund, had deposited 1 million to his servant. He had purchased the fire arm spending Rs 151,500. He says he regret for purchasing it violating the law” Uvindu Kurukulasuriya said

Rajeewa Jayaweera was an active Twitter user and his Twitter account has been disabled now. It’s not clear when his account was disabled.
