Director of National STD/AIDS Control Programme (NSACP) Dr. Rasanjali Hettiaratchi states that HIV Infection among males aged between 19-25 years is on the rise.

In a special discussion, Dr. Hettiarachchi said that the above said unfortunate situation has been observed to be gradually increasing in the recent past, with the assistance of the data gathered through tests conducted by NSACP to identify infected patients.

She also revealed that, as per scientific calculations there should be 3600 HIV infected persons registered with NSACP clinics for treatment by the year 2020, there are only 2000 infected persons registered under NSACP. She also pointed out that the rest i.e. the 1600 infected patients could be living in the society without even knowing that they’re infected, and might as well infect healthy people.

However, Dr. Rasanjali Hettiarachchi also invited everyone to visit NSACP, in order to undergo a blood test to diagnose HIV, while giving highest priority to protect each such individual’s privacy. She also mentioned that the NSACP will implement a special programme to broadly educate the public on these matters from the upcoming month. (NewsWire)
