Presidential Commission of Inquiry probing incidents of political victimization has decided to take legal action against 5 Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MPs.

SJB MPs Harin Fernando, Nalin Bandara, J.C. Alawathuwala, Mayantha Dissanayake and Sujith Sanjaya Perera have been accused by the commission for making derogatory comments about the commission and challenged its authority, PCoI chair, former Supreme Court Justice Upali Abeyratne said.

All 5 MPs have been now summoned to appear before the commission Police unit on the 9th.

The Commission said that a contempt of court case will be filed in Appeal court against them.

Yesterday SJB MPs filed a complaint with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption over the Presidential Commission of Inquiry appointed to probe incidents of political victimization.

The party has accused the Commission of misconduct, and has also charged it has misused state funds to bypass the country’s rule of law.

The PCoI was appointed by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in November 2019 to investigate incidents of political victimization between 2015-2019. It has concluded its proceedings and is set to submit its report by next week. (NewsWire)
