Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage has decided to withdraw two cases filed at the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court against imprisoned Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Ranjan Ramanayake.

Minister Aluthgamage said he has taken this decision after sympathizing with the MP.

Stating that MP Ramanayake cannot appear before courts as he has been placed in quarantine, Minister Aluthgamage said he will withdraw the cases after the MP completes his quarantine.

The Minister pointed out that even though he was a victim of political revenge by the former Government, he will not do the same in return.

He further said MP Ranjan Ramanayake had not acted alone, but it was also the actions of former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and his whole cabinet of Ministers under the Yahapalana Government.

Stating that MP Ranjan Ramanayake had insulted the Supreme Court and judges, Minister Aluthgamage said he had attempted to strike a deal and had eventually ended up in prison.

On Tuesday (12), the Supreme Court sentenced MP Ramanayake to four years rigorous imprisonment for slandering the judiciary. (NewsWire)
