A Police Sub Inspector attached to the Monaragala police station has died due to Covid related illness.
Police spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said that he is the first officer to die due to Covid-19 from the Police Department.
He said the deceased Police Sub Inspector is a 59-year-old.
The Police Officer is reported to have been admitted to the Monaragala Hospital due to a heart attack, following which he had died at the hospital.
PCR tests conducted on the deceased had ascertained that he had contracted COVID-19.
The Police officer, who is a father of three, was said to have been preparing for retirement. (NewsWire)
