A number of individuals who had received the COVID-19 vaccine are reported to have contracted the virus, Acting Health Minister Professor Channa Jayasumana said.
Speaking during a programme on Swarnavahini, the State Minister said the Ministry has received reports that a few individuals who had been administered the Oxford AstraZeneca Covieshield vaccine have thereafter contracted the coronavirus.
State Minister Channa Jayasumana said these individuals are from the Galle and Kegalle areas.
Stating that antibodies are not created in the body during the three weeks since receiving the vaccine, he said therefore, it cannot be determined that the virus cannot be contracted just by obtaining the vaccine.
Acting Health Minister Channa Jayasumana said as a result, it is essential to strictly adhere to health guidelines, despite receiving the Covid vaccine. (NewsWire)
