Sri Lankan Cricketer picked to tour West Indies tests positive for Covid

A Sri Lankan cricketer who was set to tour the West Indies has tested positive for COVID-19.

The Sri Lankan cricket team was set to depart for the Caribbean tonight.

Health authorities have commenced measures to identify those who had come into direct contact with the National player.

“We have one player positive and we are currently identifying his close contacts. We are confident we can tour if all the other players are negative,” a Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) source told NewsWire.

According to Officials, the tour is likely to go ahead despite the setback.

Meanwhile, speaking to NewsWire, Head of the Medical Committee of the SLC Professor Arjuna de Silva said Sri Lankan cricketers will receive the COVID-19 vaccine after completing the West Indies tour.

As per reports, Suranga Lakmal is the likely candidate to replace the infected player.
