Fake Canada employment racket operating in Colombo busted

A 29-year-old man has been arrested in Panadura over a foreign employment racket.

Police Spokesman, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ajith Rohana said the man had obtained money from the public promising to find employment in Canada.

The suspect is reported to have operated multiple foreign employment agencies in various locations in Colombo.

DIG Ajith Rohana said the man had obtained Rs. 3 million in cash promising jobs in Canada and had gone missing thereafter, over the last 1 ½ years.

The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) had traced the suspect and arrested him yesterday.

The suspect, who is a resident of Atalaguma, will be produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today.

The Police Spokesman said organized criminals are behind such foreign employment rackets, adding that they post advertisements on websites and social media platforms such as Facebook.

DIG Ajith Rohana warned the public to be caution of such criminals and to be vigilant of fake foreign employment rackets. (NewsWire)
