150 injured and 30 deaths reported in accidents in last 48-hours

Thirty (30) deaths have been reported and 150 persons have been injured in accidents reported in the 48-hour period ending at 06am today.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said 16 deaths were reported in accidents that had occurred in the 24-hour period ending at 06am today.

DIG Ajith Rohana said 16 deaths due to accidents were reported yesterday alone.

He said eight of the victims were from accidents reported yesterday, while the remaining eight victims were from accidents that had occurred earlier.

The Police Spokesman said among the victims were 12 motorcyclists, 2 passengers, 2 pedestrians and a driver.

He said 14 people were injured and one person was killed in an accident in the Kandaketiya area.

DIG Ajith Rohana said there is a significant increase in road accidents over the last few weeks.

He urged the public to remain vigilant and to take all necessary measures to prevent road accidents. (NewsWire)
