The Archbishop of Colombo, His Eminence, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith has made a special request from the Muslim community during a program held to mark the second anniversary of deadly 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.

He called on the Muslim community in Sri Lanka to rise up against those who try to instrumentalize Islam for their own purposes.

The Archbishop urged the Muslim community to Oppose Wahabism and organizations that promote such ideologies.

He pointed out that the recent statements of Mauwlavi Haashim Mawlana have made it clear that Muslims reject extremism.

“These attacks such as the Easter Sunday mayhem is not what it claims they are but much more than what they are, and that is why I make this request from the Muslim community,” the Cardinal said.

His Eminence, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith further said it was essential to know who carried out the attack, for what purpose, and whether they repent what they did, if they are to be forgiven.

The Archbishop asserted that It was important that religions work with one another and not against each other at present.

He further insisted that they will continue the struggle to get to know what really happened when it comes to the 2019 Easter attacks.
