The President and the Secretary of the Sri Kamadchi Amman Kovil in Jaffna have been arrested.
The Police said they were arrested for holding the temple’s chariot festival on Sunday (25) in violation of the COVID-19 quarantine regulations.
Large crowds had gathered for the festival, with many failing to wear face masks or maintain social distancing.
The Chariot festival has been held at a time when the Government had prohibited all public events in the country.
The Government had strictly enforced the Quarantine Law once again due to the prevalent COVID-19 pandemic in the country. (NewsWire)
