The Sri Lanka Police will conduct two special quarantine operations today.

The Police said a special quarantine operation will be conducted to raid parties and public gatherings organized in violation of the health guidelines issued on COVID-19.

Those organizing and participating in such activities will be arrested, while their vehicles will also be seized during the quarantine operation.

Public gatherings and parties have been prohibited due to the significant spread of the coronavirus in the country at present.

Meanwhile, another quarantine operation is to be conducted to inspect public transportation, including taxi services.

The Police said the operation will be conducted to monitor if public transportations are carrying passengers according to the seating capacity.

Public transportations will also be inspected to see if passengers are wearing face masks at all times during travel.

The Police said action will be taken against passengers, owners, drivers, conductors, and assistants if the health guidelines are violated.

The guidelines have been issued following the emergence of the New Year coronavirus cluster in April.

Sri Lanka has been reporting over 1900 Covid cases per day, while over 2600 cases were detected yesterday alone. (NewsWire)
