A special fuel tax must be imposed for luxury vehicles, Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara said.
The Leader of the Democratic Left Front said the implementation of such a tax will not cause an issue.
Stating that his party was against the recent hike in fuel prices, he said relief must be provided to motorcycle and three wheeler owners, and fishermen.
The Minister said fuel prices must be increased without burdening the public, and his party is against the decision to increase fuel prices.
Vasudeva Nanayakkara pointed out that it was unfair to increase fuel prices in par with small vehicles such as motorcycles, and luxury vehicles.
Pointing out that relief must be provided to motorcycles, three wheelers and fishermen, he said a special fuel tax must be imposed for luxury vehicles.
The Minister of Water Supply further said a proposal in this regard will be presented to the President and Prime Minister soon.
