Former MP Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra’s wife, Sumana, has condemned the Government’s decision to release murder convict former Parliamentarian Duminda Silva under a special presidential pardon.

Silva, who was issued a life sentence in 2016 over the murder of former MP Premachandra, was released under a special presidential pardon today.

Commenting on the release, Sumana Premachandra said “The killer is free. The sun will not shine on a country that does not respect justice.”

She further said that Sri Lanka has become a country that does not respect the judiciary, by disregarding the verdicts of three High Court judges and five Supreme Court judges issued on Duminda Silva.

Sumana Premachandra pointed out that this injustice has occurred on the auspicious day of Poson Poya, which is a special Buddhist festival observed in Sri Lanka today. (NewsWire)
