Sri Lanka tourism authorities have received investment requests for tourism related projects, which include cable cars, floating restaurants, and underwater art galleries.
According to The Morning, Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said foreign and local investors have reached out to obtain approval for projects worth US$ 34 million. The investors have submitted their proposals over a period of 2 months, from 1st April to 15th June.
Stating that the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) is yet to approve a total of seven tourism projects, the Minister said steps are being taken to review the proposals.
Minister Prasanna Ranatunga further said within a period of one-and-a-half years up to April 2021, US$ 879.94 million worth of investments sought approval from the SLTDA.
He said among the 54 projects, 29 projects worth US$ 184.4 million have been approved so far.
Meanwhile, the SLTDA has established a special communication unit to support investments to reduce the complicated nature of the investment approval process. (NewsWire)
