Lawyer arrested for attesting fake deed used to sell Thailand Embassy land

A lawyer has been arrested for attesting a forged deed that was used for the sale of land belonging to the Thailand Embassy in Sri Lanka.

Police spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) had received reports on the sale of the land which is situated at CWW Kannangara Mawatha in Colombo 07.

Following investigations, it was found that the sale had been made using a forged deed and power of attorney.

The seller and buyer involved in the sale of the land have been arrested by officials from the CID.

Information on the investigation had been presented to the Attorney General, after which the CID had been instructed to arrest the lawyer who had attested the fake deed. 

The CID had arrested the lawyer yesterday, while he will be produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today. (NewsWire)
